Shaving Heads for Childhood Cancer
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 21 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Union Station here in DC, mothers from around the country will shave their heads in awareness of childhood cancer. All of the mothers participating either have a child suffering from cancer, or lost a child to cancer. The organization is called 46 Mommas.

I remember several years back, on Thanksgiving Day, I ran into a neighbor who informed me her little granddaugher, Carmen, was diagnosed with cancer. Carmen was 2 or 3 at the time. It broke my heart. But it was heartwarming to watch this little girl grow out of her shell, be healthy again, have beautiful brown curls grow on her head... and I also had the distinct honor to teach her how to swim.
Now, anytime I see something on TV or hear of childhood cancer, it breaks my heart even more knowing they have to suffer through what I had to endure. As an adult, we are prepared to handle life and what it brings to us. But children are innocent. And it's our jobs to protect them and keep them safe. As much as I want all cancer to go away forever, even more so for childhood cancer. So for the moms out there who are participating in this event, my hat goes off to you. And under that hat is the new growth of my hair showing there is life after the struggle.
Love, hugs, and embracing 46 new coconut head sisters,
Holly
